Investing in the Next 90
In 2021, Berkeley Lab will support five non-profit STEM organizations to help prepare young scholars to become tomorrow’s leaders and problem solvers.
Berkeley Lab will provide institutional donations and offer opportunities for employees to volunteer & donate. We’ll highlight these organizations during the 90th anniversary campaign.
Metas
Metas (“goals” in Spanish) was established in 1987, to focus on three major issues affecting the Latinx community: the escalating high school dropout rate, the low enrollment of Latinos in college, and the low transfer rates of Latinos to four-year institutions. The program serves preschool through 12th grade students in the surrounding communities of Contra Costa College. They work collaboratively with students to increase their proficiency in reading, writing and math, along with their self-confidence and self-perception. Through the support of Metas, 100% of 12th grade students in the program, graduate high school and go on to enroll in college.
